This scholarship is given annually to
a student in Stefan Browne’s name. Stefan, Class of 2001, passed
away suddenly in 2008. Stefan was a hardworking student who was committed
to his community and to his family. He was a good friend and a strong
believer in social justice, citizenship, the importance of music,
and service. His friends and family have built this fund to honor
his name and his memory.
The scholarship will be awarded to an incoming
freshman in need, who has a strong work ethic, an interest in music
and pursuing a music strand at Bishop Dunne, is a good citizen, and
believes in community service and outreach. The scholarship is renewable
each year if a clean discipline record and acceptable GPA is maintained.
Application is by writing a letter to the school President,
outlining current achievements; high school and college plans; community
service commitments; and dreams for the future. Letter must be accompanied
by two letters of recommendation. The Stefan Browne Scholarship is
$500 a year towards Bishop Dunne tuition.
Dr. Robert Simonson Science Scholarship
Description
The Dr. Robert Simonson Science Scholarship was established in 2006
to honor and recognize the numerous contributions Dr. Robert Simonson,
our School Advisory Council President, has made over the years to
the parents, students, faculty and staff of Bishop Dunne Catholic
School. Dr. Simonson is the medical director of CareFlite and medical
director of the emergency room care at Methodist Hospital.
Eligibility
The Dr. Robert Simonson Science Scholarship will be awarded to an
8th grade student from a Catholic middle school, including Bishop
Dunne Middle School, who is interested in pursuing a career in the
health services. The student must have an exemplary GPA, be a leader
in his or her community and have an outstanding record of community
service.
Amount
The scholarship will be for 50% tuition for four years at Bishop
Dunne High School. Students must keep a clean discipline record and
achieve a 93% GPA for the scholarship to continue each year.
Deadline
April 1 of each year.

renewable. A complete application must be submitted for each year
that students are eligible to apply. All applications will be reviewed
by the Bishop Dunne Scholarship Committee. The Scholarship Committee

The St. Francis Veterinary Science Scholarship was established in 2010 to honor and recognize the numerous contributions the St. Francis Animal Rescue Club has made over the years to the community of Oak Cliff and Dallas. The club has been in operation since 2008 and rescues animals from the street, taking care of their health and well being, sponsoring neutering programs, and promoting animal adoptions. Students raise funds through many avenues and the club is active in raising awareness for animal rights.

The St. Francis Veterinary Science Scholarship will be awarded to an 8th grade student from a Catholic middle school, including Bishop Dunne Middle School, who is interested in pursuing a career in veterinary science. This scholarship is given annually to a student in John David Wooten’s name. John passed away at an early age and he was the son on John and Beverly Wooten.
John Wooten was born on December 5, 1936, in Riverview, Texas, attended Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, New Mexico, and is a graduate of the University of Colorado in Boulder, Colorado with Bachelor of Science degree. John played for the Cleveland Browns from 1959 through 1967 and the Washington Redskins from 1967 through 1968. John has been involved with the NFL for 44 years and served in various capacities with the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles, and the Baltimore Ravens. John is now living in Dallas, Texas, where he is the President of Wooten Printing, Inc. in Dallas, Texas, and the Chairman of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, an affinity group of NFL minority coaches, scouts and front office personnel. During the last couple of years the FPA has worked with the NFL to develop hiring guidelines for front office and scouting positions as well as talent development programs. The FPA advocates for policy changes in the NFL hiring practices and helps to create opportunities for minority candidates.

John David believed passionately in education and had a great desire to see young people realize their dreams.
