filling out the Bishop Dunne financial aid application for next school
year, they are invited to an Application Night on February 16, 2010,
from 6:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. in room 304. Parents will need completed
income tax information from 2009 to complete the application. Assistance

Advanced Placement Exam Readers
Two of our most experienced AP English
teachers, Mrs. Eleanor Graham and Mr. Daniel Wilson, have accepted
much coveted invitations to become Readers for the AP Exams in Louisville,
Kentucky, this June. Each year AP teachers and college faculty members
from around the world gather in the United States to read and score
the free-response sections of the AP Exams. The more than 10,000
teachers and college faculty who participate in annual reading sessions
receive certificates rewarding professional development hours and
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for their participation. This experience
benefits our students, as Mrs. Graham and Mr. Wilson will return
from these reading sessions with added expertise and valuable material
which can be applied in the AP classroom.

Parent/Teacher Conferences
On Friday, February 12, 2010, from 1:00
p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Bishop Dunne will be holding parent/teacher conferences.
Bishop Dunne is presently using a web based appointment calendar
that requires parents and teachers to register at the following web
address and use the calendar feature there to make and track appointments
for the day. If you have not registered for the calendar yet, we
invite you to do so now. If you cannot remember your user information
from last year, you may register again with a different user name
and password. The system will still recognize your actual name and
place your posts accordingly. You must have and use a valid email
address to use the service. If you enter an invalid email address
when signing up for the service, you will not receive notification
of your account activation, further delaying your ability to access
and use the calendar service. More information and explicit instructions
and help features can be found on the site. Calendar web address

Wireless and Anti-Virus
Parents are asked to make sure that their
child’s computer has an up-to-date anti-virus program and that
the computer is scanned regularly. Please check computers, as several
students have discussed the use of the program Lime Wire, which is
a music sharing site. Lime Wire is known for being infested with
viruses and Trojan viruses which can cripple a computer. Please help
us keep our network and your computers safe by doing a check as soon
as possible.
Online Education Program
News
Credit Deficiencies
Bishop Dunne’s School and Family Handbook states that all students
with credit deficiencies in the following disciplines - English,
Social Studies, Theology, Science, Language, and Math - must register
for enrollment in the required class for credit redemption within
6 months of receiving a failing grade, unless alternative arrangements
are approved by Mrs. Kate Dailey, Mr. Patrick O’Sullivan, Mr.
Mario Root, and Mr. Hill Copeland. The policy states that “if
the student does not fulfill the stated conditions by the beginning
of the next academic year, readmission for that year could be denied.” In
addition, if a student should fail an online credit redemption class,
that student must re-enroll in the class during the next available
online semester.
To redeem lost credit due to failure, Bishop Dunne students must
register for online classes with the Online Education Program. Registration
for the spring semester will begin January 27, 2010, and classes
will begin February 11, 2010, with late registration continuing through
February15, 2010. The OEP offers an individualized program
for students to regain lost credit. The classes are offered 24/7,
are self paced, and designed to meet the specific needs of the student.
Students will have the availability of an on-campus liaison as well
as daily online assistance. To register for OEP classes, please see
Ms. Sandra Brooks in the Business Office, or download a registration
form from the Edline homepage and send it as an attachment or call
214 331 6561 extension 233. For more information regarding OEP classes
or credit redemption, please contact Mr. Hill Copeland at hcopeland@bdhs.org or
Mr. Mario Root at mroot@bdhs.org
Middle School Online Education
Program (OEP) for Credit Redemption
Please be reminded that Middle School students who score below 70
percent in English, literature, religion, history, math, or science,
must successfully complete online credit redemption courses in order
to be considered for promotion to the next grade. Registration for
these online courses has begun. Please use the registration form
found on Edline, and/or contact Mrs. Sandra Brooks in the Business
Office, at sbrooks@bdhs.org,
or 214 331 6561, extension 233. Courses will begin February 15, 2010.
Please contact Mrs. Joy Gardner at jgardner@bdhs.org,

in a tragic car accident this morning. Gladys was in the Class of
2007 and currently attending UTA. She was returning home from a bible

be remembered for her loving and giving spirit, her hard work and
dedication, love of family and community, and fearsome wrestling

asks for donations in Gladys’s name for scholarships at Bishop
Dunne.

page in the front thanking the donor and honoring the person for
whom the book is donated. Please follow the link to a
book
list of needed volumes for the library. Parents, please consider
honoring your child’s birthday or a special event by donating
a book to the library in his or her name.
All parents who donate more than $200 in new approved books, audio
books, and DVD’s will receive a brick in their honor in the
Walk of Fame, by the entrance to the field house and stadium, and
all donors will be recognized in the computer register.

Tech and Tradition
Senior Graduation
Plans for the baccalaureate and commencement
ceremonies are being finalized. Announcements are ordered through
Balfour. Packets with all the price information for the announcement
packages and other graduation items are being distributed this week.
Balfour will be on campus at lunch early next week to take orders
and receive deposits. Because each student orders the number that
he or she needs, the price of these is separate from the graduation
fee.
Caps and gowns will also be ordered through the school next
week. The cost of these is included in the graduation fee, and graduating
seniors will need to provide Ms. Boarman with their height and weight
so that the correct size is ordered. The gowns are royal blue. Those
students graduating with honors will also receive honor cords of
the appropriate designation. Caps and gowns will be distributed when
they arrive at the end of April or the beginning of May. Honor cords
will be distributed at graduation practice on Thursday, May 20, 2010.
Baccalaureate Mass is Friday, May 21, 2010, at 6:00 p.m. at St.
Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church. Due to the limited seating
capacity of the church, it is suggested that families restrict the
number of guests they invite to Mass.
Graduation exercises will take
place at noon on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at SMU’s McFarlin Memorial
Auditorium. Parking is limited to the designated lots, and a parking
fee will be charged at the entrance. Each senior will receive approximately
15 tickets (more or less depending upon the number of seats available)
to the graduation exercises. If he or she needs more tickets than
are allotted, he or she will need to check with other seniors.
If
you have any questions about graduation, please email the senior
class moderator, Ms. Marylee Boarman, at mboarman@bdhs.org.
8th Grade Awards
On May 21, 2010, at 9:00 a.m., 8th grade students
and their parents are invited to a special breakfast and awards ceremony.
Tickets will be issued to students at a later date. Students are
to dress in their Mass uniform.
Welcome Dance
Incoming freshmen for the 2010-2011 school year are
invited to a welcome dance in the gymnasium on May 21, 2010, at 7:00
p.m. Invitations will be issued later in the year.
Arsenic and Old Lace in April
This spring, the Bishop Dunne Drama
Department will present Arsenic and Old Lace, a comedy by Joseph
Kesselring. Originally produced on Broadway in the 1940’s,
this work has become a classic of American comedy theatre. Two sisters,
elderly spinster ladies living in Brooklyn, attempt to end the loneliness
of their single gentlemen boarders with a rather unconventional “special
recipe”—elderberry wine. Also residing in their large
Victorian house is their younger brother, Teddy, who believes he
is Teddy Roosevelt. When a long-lost nephew returns to hide out from
his criminal past at his aunts’ home, the mistaken identities
and double-crosses begin.
The show will be performed on Thursday,
April 8, and Saturday, April 10, 2010.There will not be a show on
Friday, April 9, due to scheduling conflicts with the building. Students
are encouraged to audition on Monday, February 8, or Tuesday, February
9, in room 407 after school. Students who audition should prepare
a 30-second monologue to present at the audition. Students who wish
to work on one of the production crews will be asked to sign up beginning
on February 10, once the cast has been announced.
Volunteer opportunities
will be available as there will be materials and furniture needed
for the set. In particular, the theatre department would appreciate
donations of lumber, fabric, household items, furniture items, especially
furniture that appears Victorian, and paint. If parents have any
of these items for donations, please contact Ms. Boarman at mboarman@bdhs.org.

Junior Luke Woolman has been selected to attend
the week long 35th Annual Summer Leaders’ Seminar at West Point,
the United States Military Academy. He was chosen based on his hard
work and accomplishments and his selection confirms that he is a
top candidate for admission. Luke will participate in academic, athletic,
and recreational activities, and will stay in the cadet dorms. Luke
hopes to attend West Point, the Air Force Academy, or the Naval Academy
upon his graduation from Bishop Dunne in 2011.
National Signing Day
This May, we will say farewell to three outstanding
student athletes who have made an impact in our community as well
as on our athletic fields. Sixty games and 2,545 plays later, Bobby
Watkins, David Anthony, and Antoine Anderson have combined to achieve
four All-State selections, five All-District selections, and an Offensive
and Defensive New Comer of the Year awards. They have received athletic
scholarships to attend Air Force Academy and Midwestern State this
fall.
Bobby Watkins was a three-year starter at cornerback and wide
receiver for the Falcons. He was a two time All-State and All-District
recipient at each position. Bobby started in 28 career games registering
116 tackles, 7 interceptions, 15 passes defended, 1 fumble recovery,
and 2 forced fumbles as a Falcon. He recorded a career high nine
tackles against defending state champion Nolan Catholic in 2008.
Bobby will also spend his next four years as a Falcon. He has committed
to the Air Force Academy Falcons.
David Anthony has also committed
to Air Force Academy with fellow teammate Bobby Watkins III. David
was a two-year starter at safety and wide receiver for the Falcons.
He was a two-time All-District selection and started in 23 career
games registering 109 tackles, 4 interceptions, 5 passes defended,
and 1 forced fumble. He recorded a career high nine tackles against
district opponent, Faith Christian.
In his first year playing football,
Antoine earned All-State honors as well as Defensive New Comer of
the Year awards. Antoine led the district in receiving yards grabbing
31 receptions for 559 yards and two touchdowns. He also registered
65 tackles, 2 interceptions, 3 forced fumbles, 2 passes defended,
and 1 fumble recovery. He recorded a career and season high 16 tackles,
1 forced fumble, and 1 fumble recovery against district rival Bishop
Lynch. Antoine has committed to Midwestern State University.
Congratulations
to these exceptional young men, who have also worked hard in the
classroom and have always been among the first to volunteer for community
service. Thanks to their teammates, coaches and fans who have supported
them and encouraged them to be the best.
Annual Youth and Government State Conference
Morgan and Camille
Moore attended the Annual Youth and Government State Conference from
January 21 through January 24, 2010, in Austin, Texas. This conference
is sponsored by the YMCA and was first established in 1946. It was
a wonderful first-hand experience of Texas Youth Government in action.
There were 1,038 students in attendance from eight districts throughout
Texas and Oklahoma. Morgan and Camille's bill was passed and published
in the Junior Y&G Legislative Bill book. They had the opportunity
to sit in the actual seats on the floor of the House of Representatives
at the State Capital, toured the UT Law School, and attended a mock
trial. They made many friends and look forward to participating in
2010.
Eagle Scout
Congratulations to junior Chris Chartier who has been
awarded the prestigious Eagle Scout honor, the Boy Scouts’ highest
honor and rank. During Chris' Eagle Scout Service project Chris supervised
and assisted 23 volunteers who added improvements to the Immaculate
Conception Convent in Grand Prairie, including but not limited to
tiled floors, five French doors, crown molding, and insulation. Chris
also assisted his older brother, Paul, in Paul’s Eagle project
which included a complete gutting and renovation to the same convent
about four years ago. Their combined work included over 3,736 service
hours and an estimated $168,000 value of improvements, making the
convent a pleasant environment for the sisters.

the credit union at 214 348 8670 extension 114. The TCCCU, which
is located at 10103 Shoreview, near White Rock Lake, has a night

Payment Methods
Bishop Dunne Catholic School accepts cash, cashier’s checks,
money orders, MasterCard or VISA for any payments. We can now accept
credit cards to add funds to your student’s cafeteria account.
We request a minimum $20 amount.
Student Names
Some of our students have a different last name than their parent
or guardian. We keep our accounts by student name. Please put the
student’s name on your check when making payments.
Returned Checks
Returned checks to BDCS or TCCCU are due immediately upon notification
by BDCS or TCCCU. Two returned checks will require cash, cashier’s
check, money order, MasterCard, or Visa to be used for any future
payments on that account. If payment made on behalf of a student
by a third party is returned by the bank, the responsible party
will immediately become responsible for the tuition or fee intended
to be paid by the third party, but not the returned check fee.
Tuition Refunds
If a student withdraws from BDCS prior to the end of the current
academic year, the student and his or her family may be entitled
to a refund of tuition for any unused school semester. Any unpaid
fees or fines, including cafeteria charges, will be deducted from
the refund. Additionally, there will be an administrative fee assessed
for voluntary withdrawal from the school.
Volunteer Hours
Each family is expected to perform a total of at least 40 hours of
community service for the School or to pay a $200 sustentation
fee. Donations of items such as office supplies and bottled water
count toward your volunteer time. If you are unsure of the number
of volunteer hours accumulated or have a question about making
a donation, please contact Mrs. Norma Echavarria at extension 247.
