From
the Principal
Dear Parents,
Prayers
Please keep the following in your prayers as they or members
of their family face illness or recover from surgery: Jaime Aquino,
father of senior Alanna and graduate Alyssa, who is very ill with heart
disease; Eva Barryer, sister of faculty member Dewey Wakefield, who
has a serious diabetic condition and was hospitalized with stroke like
symptoms; Glora Garcia, great aunt of freshman Andrew Mendez, who is
very ill; and sophomore Xavier Matthew, who continues his struggle
with leukemia.
Please keep in your prayers those members of our community
who are going through the difficulty of losing a family member; faculty
member Thelma Cooper, whose daughter-in-law’s brother, Humbert
Martinez, passed away; junior Shaun Kyser, whose grandfather, Willie
James Kyser, passed away; sophomore Emily Price, whose grandmother,
Mary Torbik, passed away suddenly.
Early Dismissal
Please remember Friday, April 3, 2009, is an early dismissal day
followed by parent/teacher conferences. Parent/teacher conferences
will be held from 1:00 p.m. through 4:00 p.m. Holy Thursday, April
9, 2009, is also an early dismissal day, and there is no school on
Good Friday, April 10, 2009, nor Easter Monday, April 13, 2009.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Friday 3 April
Bishop Dunne is presently
using a Web based appointment calendar that requires parents and
teachers to register at the following Web address and use the calendar
feature there to make and track appointments for the day. If you
have not registered for the calendar yet, we invite you to do so
now. If you cannot remember your user information from earlier this
year, you may register again with a different user name and password.
The system will still recognize your actual name and place your posts
accordingly. You must have and use a valid e-mail address to access
the service. If you enter an invalid e-mail address when signing
up for the service, you will not receive notification of your account
activation, further delaying your ability to access and use the calendar
service. More information and explicit instructions and help features
can be found on the site. It is our impression that this service
cuts down on wait times and helps streamline the process. You will
find the calendar feature at the following URL: http://www.bdhs.org/parents/framecal/parentteacher.html Please know that you can make parent/teacher appointments at any
time with Mr. O’Sullivan, Mr. Johnson or Mrs. Dailey.
Campus Ministry
The Campus Ministry department at Bishop Dunne will
sponsor the monthly Gospel Reading group on Thursday evening, April
2, 2009, at 7:00 p.m. The group is an ecumenical monthly Gospel study
group for Bishop Dunne parents to help us prepare for the month’s
gospel readings. The aim is to make us aware of the message of the
gospel for each of the Sundays in the coming month, to better apply
the gospel message to our everyday life, and to better experience
the transforming power of the Eucharistic celebration.
For those who would like to prepare ahead of time, the gospel readings
for April are:

Student Council News
Several Bishop Dunne students attended the
2009 National Leadership Conference in Chicago. Tia Flowers, who
holds the Public Relations position for the sophomore class, reported, “The
2009 LEAD Conference encouraged us to become interactive leaders
and helped us train in areas such as team building, fundraising,
and community service projects. The Conference allowed us to work
together and with students from other schools across the United States.
The great speakers better prepared us in our leadership roles. We
explored new ideas and exchanged concepts. We have brought back a
whole new agenda for the Bishop Dunne Falcon Community.” Student
council members continue promoting the partnership with other Catholic
schools, supporting a St. Augustine Catholic School fundraising dinner
and the Muscular Dystrophy Association Walk that will take place
on March 28, 2009.
