Besides the bees and the sunburns, boredom is a teenager’s worst fear when it comes to summer vacation. But possibly there’s a way to cut the cord on being bored this summer. Here are some ideas: |
So, whenever there is a boring day or you are feeling down, just remember this small list of things to do. Hopefully, your boring day will go away. |
1. Join Summer Sports Leagues & Camps “In the summer, I like to go to the gym and play basketball,” says Sophomore Antoine Anderson. Looking for more structured athletics? Bishop Dunne offers plenty of summer camps. Some of this summer’s camps include: wrestling, basketball, conditioning classes for girls, karate, drama, and many more. So why fly away to some other gym when you can stay right here in the Falcons’ nest? For more information on summer camps, visit www.bdhs.org/summer/.
2. Six Flags Over Texas This will be the hot hangout spot for the summer. There are plenty of fun new rides, such as the new Tony Hawk’s Big Spin Coaster with 360-degree spins, and plus, you will see plenty of your friends. “I like going to Six Flags because I get to experience new rides, and it’s fun,” says sophomore Kayla Joseph. |
3. Movies You can cry over the latest chick flick or scream your heart out while watching the latest horror movie. This is an entertaining way to spend time with your friends or with that special someone.
4. Swim Need to stay fit? Trying to stay cool in the hot Texas weather? Want to have fun in the sun? This is a great way to do all three of these things at the same time! Check out the Duncanville Natatorium and many more pools in your area. 5. Mall “You can see a lot of people and you can get to buy |

Students are anxious, teachers are scrambling for fresh lesson plans, and everyone is on edge because the end is near. But since summer is coming, students need to find a way to get money for all of that pointless movie-watching and candy-buying that makes their teeth fall out, shopping for cute summer outfits, and spending money for those vacations and/or road trips with friends. But how, oh how, will they ever come up with this money? The answer is quite simple: a summer job. Senior Gabrian King states that he plans to get a job this summer so that he will have some money when he goes off to college. He says that his ideal summer job would be somewhere fun, like the mall, and would have benefits, good pay, and plenty of fun new people. Freshmen Hannah Neill also stated that she is getting a summer job, volunteering at a hospital, but that her ideal summer job would be working as a lifeguard. While on this profit-seeking excursion, one must ask oneself, what and where are the absolute best jobs to work during the summer, and what are the jobs that one needs to avoid as if one’s life depends on it? Check out the box to the left for some ideas. Everyone is different, and you must figure out what job bests fits you. So, whether you work better with kids, by yourself, in an office, or poolside, just remember to make sure of one thing: that your summer job makes you happy, and more importantly, that it puts all of that hard-earned money in your pocket. |
