NightNight

by Elie Wiesel

Length: 144 pages

While this is required reading at Bishop Dunne, if you have not read this novel, you must. Elie tells the story of his experience in the Holocaust. The book is very dramatic and disturbing, but it is a wonderful story that engrosses you from the beginning.

Even if these books don’t interest you, there’s millions of others books that can intrigue you. Go to amazon.com or barnesandnoble.com to find what you are looking for. Even if you are not reading a book, read a magazine, Internet article, or a newspaper. Read something to keep your mind active.

Here are some other recommendations from the Flyer staff:

Hocus Pocus by Kurt Vonnegut

Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants Series by Ann Brashares

East of Eden by John Steinbeck

The Battle of Jericho by Sharon M. Draper

Scribbler of Dreams by Mary E. Pearson

Life is Funny by E.R. Frank

The top nine sites you should visit

By: Andy Awa

Are you bored with TV or is it too hot to go outside? What do you do on a boring day like that? In this age of technology, what better solution is there than logging on to the Internet and surfing it like you’re in Hawaii.

But unfortunately, you may have frequented your favorite sites a little too much. So, here is your official guide to interesting sites on the net:

google9. Google.com

To date, this is the best search engine around. It displays thousands of results when you type in what you want to find. It beats all of its competitors: askjeeves.com yahoo.com, msn.com, and more.

8. Wikihow.com

If you don’t know how to do something, just surf this site. It shows you in complete detail how to do what you want. From learning how to improve your math skills to learning how to build a birdhouse, wikihow.com will teach you any and every thing you want to know how to do.

7. Upcomingmovies.com (sponsored by Yahoo!)

Have you ever wanted to know when new movies are coming out or which movies are in production? Then definitely check out this site, where you can see profiles on nearly all future movies. This site also includes movie trailers and features movies that are only opening in particular areas.

6. Wikipedia.com

Everyone knows about wikipedia. Like most students, this site has helped me on many last-minute projects and essays. It beats its sister website, wikihow.com, because all you have to do is type in who or what you want to search for and it brings it up in a flash.

5. Rhapsody.com

If you don’t have a radio nearby, then turn up your computer’s speakers, because rhapsody.com has it all. Any song you want to listen to, it’s there. And the best part? It’s free. It gives you unlimited access to music that you want to hear anytime, anywhere.

4. ESPN.go.com

The Entertainment and Sports Programming Network is the best sports show on TV and now it’s on the Internet. This website is so good that they added an extra dot and a “go” just to tell you who is in charge. For all the latest sports news, go here and get a quick update.

3. TVguide.com

The purpose of this article is to inform the reader about what are the exciting sites on the Internet, but TVguide.com is amazingly accurate when it comes to featuring TV’s best shows. So if you get bored with the Internet, then look at this site and turn on the TV.

2. Youtube.com

Youtube.com has taken the Internet by storm. Any video you want can be shown on this electrifying site. It shows video clips of your favorite artists, shows, and even your own homemade videos. As long as you have Java, then you can watch the tube at Youtube.com

Well, first we started out with Google.com, and then  TVguide.com rounded off the top three. Getting anxious? Number 1 is:

1. Bored.com

Bored.com is the best site whenever you are bored. It gives out links to different, (and usually) obscure sites. The links range from sports to games to sites that are just plain random. On the site you can have your dreams interpreted, or the computer can take an accurate picture of you. The name of the site just tells you to come to it, with its own special ring. It’s a unique name for a site to go to when you are bored: Bored.com

Well that’s it; the top nine. Maybe as the new generation rolls around there just might be new and better sites. Maybe.

Keeping Their Heads Above Water

The BD Swim Team

By: Sean Luke

The swim team, like a lot of other highly successful sports at Bishop Dunne, is incredibly underrated and has success on levels that the popular sports such as football have yet to achieve. With a strong state record, there can only be one direction for this team to go:  up.

The swim team has high hopes for the coming seasons due to the fact that they have had unprecedented success in past years.

The swim team began four years ago when a student showed high proficiency in the sport. From that point on, the difficult challenge has been promoting and spreading interest in the swim
