| Welcome
to the 22nd Anniversary of GeoTech! - March 4 - 6, 2010
Our Keynote presentations will include Chad Pregracke and Ben Osborne. Chad has been involved in starting a large environmental, nonprofit organization called Living Lands and Waters in his home area of Illinois. He will talk about how students can make a difference in the quality of the environment we live in. Ben was the winner of the highly prestigious Shell Award in Photography as the world's most outstanding photographer of 2007. You may recognize some of his more impressive works from the Planet Earth project, a nature series originally broadcast by the BBC, and then later edited and re-released by the Discovery Channel. Ben and Chad will arrive early in the conference to spend time with both teachers and students alike to talk about their trades. Currently we have several national education technology businesses available to showcase technology in education, such as:
We will also highlight leaders in the use of educational technologies from teachers proficient in the use of Twitter for homework enhancement, podcasting classroom lectures, and other content based resources. Our own staff will highlight the use of GPS to enhance mathematics, history, geography, and lifetime fitness. Teachers will highlight the use of wireless technologies in field data acquisition as well as use of these technologies for classroom surveys to submission of homework. Both teachers and students can become valuable contributors to the generation of classroom understanding. Several local universities and community colleges will be available at the vendor areas to highlight their programs of summer teacher enhancement and opportunities for your school’s graduates to pursue their further education. The local branch of the Texas Alliance for Geographic Education known as the Geography Educators of the Metroplex will host workshops and a business meeting for local opportunities in the Geography arena. National Geographic has recognized this as the only conference of its kind in terms of getting exposure to national leaders and the level of hands on exposure to spatial educational technologies. Presenters have ranged from astronauts, world explorers, leading scientists, agents of social change, international best selling authors from the tops of their fields, sharing insights in a warm personal setting, sure to inspire teachers to continuing impact in the classroom.
